Rugby Coaching

In terms of the way rugby is coached, there is a move away from coach-centered instruction to player-centered learning. These methods are increasingly being used by the top coaches to get their players to perform at the highest level.

At the youngest age, the debate remains over the amount of contact that should take place and at what age should be used. Some suggest that tackling should be taught as young as possible, but others. Including Danny Grewcock recently said that his length of participation in the game was due to little contact at a early age.

Tag rugby

Tag rugby is a fast-moving, non-contact invasion game suitable for boys and girls to play together. Its safe non-contact nature, combined with the fun and vibrancy of the sport, has meant that mini tag is now the R.F.U`s official version of rugby for under-7s and under-8s.

The interchangeable nature of possession, leading to rapid switching from attack to defense, means that a range of skills are cultivated and developed. Co-operation, integration and determination, along with individual and collective responsibility, are all key elements in the game of mini tag.

What is a tag belt?

The tag belt is a belt worn around the waist two "ribbons" (tag) are attached by Velcro. One tag hangs down each side. The belt is worn on the outside of the clothing. Shirts should be tucked in, or, on a hot day, shirts can be worn outside the shorts with the tag belt on top of the shirt. Tags are positioned one on each hip.
